Speaker Lineup and Event Details Announced for 2021 Morningstar Investment Conference Australia

May 26, 2021

SYDNEY, May 26, 2021 -- Morningstar Australasia Pty Limited, an Australian subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc. (Nasdaq: MORN), a leading provider of independent investment research, today announced the speaker lineup for its Morningstar Investment Conference in Sydney, which will take place as a hybrid event Wednesday, 2 June and Thursday, 3 June.

“As investors continue to face uncertainty, the role of the financial adviser to deliver efficient, timely advice is more important than ever before,” said Jamie Wickham, managing director, Morningstar Australasia. “We look forward to hearing from some of the most highly respected names in the industry discuss relevant investment topics and key issues impacting client portfolios.”

The Morningstar Investment Conference comprises digital, in-person and on-demand sessions to bring together industry leaders and investment professionals as they discuss the latest developments and share new perspectives on the market.

This year, we have secured three keynote speakers:

  • Dan Ivascyn, group chief investment officer at PIMCO, Newport Beach. Markets have been on a tear since the lows of March 2020, aided by fiscal stimulus and record low interest rates around the world. But how long can this continue? Will inflation actually come to bear? sooner than expected? There is no better-placed person to address these issues than Dan.
  • Jeremy Grantham, long-term investment strategist and co-founder, GMO, Boston. Jeremy is well known for his views on markets, and recently described the current state of markets as “one of the greatest bubbles of financial history.”
  • Hiro Mizuno, former chief investment officer of the Japan Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), Tesla Board Member and Special Envoy of U.N. Secretary General on Innovative Finance and Sustainable Investments. Hiro will be joined by Michael Jantzi, CEO of Sustainalytics as they discuss the risks and opportunities for investors associated with the transition to a more sustainable world.

This year’s full lineup includes:

  • Robert Almeida, investment officer and global investment strategist, MFS, Boston
  • Scott Berg, portfolio manager and vice president, T.Rowe Price, Baltimore
  • Russel Chesler, head of investments and capital markets, VanEck
  • Tony Cousins, chief executive and chief investment officer, Pyrford, London
  • David Gait, head of the sustainable funds group and portfolio manager Stewart Investors Board
  • Philipp Hofflin, portfolio manager/analyst, Lazard Asset Management
  • Rajiv Jain, chairman and chief investment officer, GQG Partners, Fort Lauderdale
  • Michael Jantzi, chief executive officer, Sustainalytics, Toronto
  • Dawn Kanelleas, head of Australian small and mid-caps companies, First Sentier Investors
  • Kunal Kapoor, chief executive officer, Morningstar, Chicago
  • Dan Kemp, chief investment officer, Morningstar Investment Management, London
  • Edwina Matthews, head of responsible investments, Pendal Group
  • Tim Murphy, director of manager research, Morningstar Australasia, Sydney
  • Matthew Mulcahy, senior portfolio manager, head of rates and currency, Macquarie
  • Christian Obrist, director, head of iShares Australasia, BlackRock
  • Jay Sivapalan, head of Australian fixed interest
  • Matt Wacher, chief investment officer, Morningstar Investment Management Australia, Sydney
  • Jamie Wickham, managing director, Morningstar Australasia, Sydney
  • Craig Wright, head of governance and advisory, Magellan

A session featuring asset allocation specialists from around the world will share global perspectives on where the best opportunities for portfolio strategy lie, as Rob Almeida, Tony Cousins, and Matt Wacher discuss how portfolios should be positioned to deal with a range of possible outcomes.

Equity sessions, covering both Australian and global equities, will explore the ongoing rotation in value and growth stocks and how long they may continue, while a fixed interest session will explore the challenges of building fixed interest portfolios in a potentially inflationary environment.

The growing importance of sustainable investing will also be featured in a session discussing current global trends in ESG and how it is increasingly relevant for advisers to consider when building client portfolios.

Sponsors will be able to engage with Morningstar Investment Conference attendees through in-person and digital booths, which include on-demand and live content, as well as the ability to connect with attendees during both days of the conference.
